DI Development, a Business of DynCorp International, and Private Sector Alliances

October 6, 2011 at 2:36 pm

On Friday, September 23, DI Development team members attended a U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID)-sponsored, implementer training program on private sector alliances.

In addition to defining alliances, the lead presenter, Linda Nemic, Executive VP, Dexis Consulting Group, detailed the elements of good alliances, why they are important and how they add value.

According to USAID, more than 1,065 alliances were developed between 2001-2009 with more than 3,025 distinct partners. While the target for a successful Global Development Alliance (GDA) program is 1:1 resource leveraging, USAID reports indicate that the average GDA leverage over the last 10 years was 1:3.75. In other words, for every GDA dollar USAID spent on a program, USAID’s implementing partners attracted $3.75 in matching funding, in-kind contributions, or corporate investment. Despite this high rate, much more can be done to engage private sector companies and private sector investment in international development. Additionally, the scale of these programs and the overall funding is small. Most partnerships are formed as individual components of much larger USAID-funded projects. Read more →
